Berger (InternQueen.com, http://www.internqueen.com/) has produced a good resource for students considering an internship. The major thesis of her book is that a college education that does not include internship experience is less valuable when it comes time for one's job search. In this current economic period of high unemployment, this point is especially well taken. The book's nine chapters provide information on researching, securing, and succeeding in an internship. Many tips are also applicable to an employment search, e.g., creating a resume, prepping for an interview, writing a cover letter, and using social media. This reviewer found particularly useful the tips for creating a business card to use in the internship search and having profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; advice on attire, communication style, and most importantly sending a thank-you note (in the chapter on interviewing); and the chapter on what to do after the internship ends. An informative chapter on the Fair Labor Standards Act explains the legal rights of an intern (one may be tempted to believe interns are not covered by FLSA because they are not full-time employees).
